QTR-Quadtone RIP

I am planning on converting either an Epson 4000 or 9600 over to a
piezo(b/w only) type printer and utilizing QTR.  I would like your
opinions about the following:

1) I know there are several different types of inks that can be used.
 Any recommendations?  

2) Is there anybody out there who might be able to show me some sample
prints from the variety of solutions?

3) Should I consider making my own curves and utilizing a
spectrophotometer to create custom profiles?  If yes can I utilize any
spectrphotometer.  Any recommendatsiona between using the Monaco or
Gretag Units?
