It's twice the data, but maybe not twice the information. :-) Some claim it makes a smoother print, others see no difference. You will have to judge for yourself. For example, you could look at large area gradients like skies and fair skin portraits for any difference. It is important that the image originates and stays >8-bit during your entire workflow; hopefully that is obvious.
