QTR-Quadtone RIP

iMac G5 power PC, Tiger.  Epson 2200, Photoshop elements. UT7 inkset.

As I have tried to get QTR work with this combination I have
encountered many difficulties.  The output I get looks terrible with
enormous loss of contrast detail.  When I look at the tutorial it
appears that one of the options shown, the appearance of the
QuadToneRIP Print dialog pane is missing (is this only a MS Windows
feature??)
I downloaded the file Pulse_21_gray_QTR_part.tif from the forum files
and have tried printing it on plain paper and this shows where the
problem seems to lie.  I can see only full black to the left of the
eighth block on the 21 point scale (thirteen of the panels print
black). I have tried printing this with Quad2200 and Quad2200-UT7 and
five different profiles. None look normal at all. Any suggestions?
