I guess that depends on printer and ink. For my epson 2100 with UT3D 
I'm in the process of switching over to 2880 since I get better Dmax 
and smoother prints. Not that the 1440 prints are bad, but the 2880 
prints are just that bit better...

I don't think that 2880 dpi means more ink. One has to reduce the ink 
limit substantially in order not to lay too much ink down. The main 
setback is that printing is slower.
