For this new version I have not tested changing the resolution, speed,
or dithering as I am sure I will only repeat the problem at the cost
of ink, paper and time.



I don't know why you haven't tried unidirectional printing? This is
all I've ever used on several printers and have never experienced what
you describe. Switching out of bidirectional output is the first thing
I would have tried.
