QTR-Quadtone RIP

Hi there,

   I'm new around (and to printing B&W) but after trying to have some
B&W prints on a Epson R270 I gave up. The metamerism was awaful and no
matter how I was adjusting the color balance there still was a color
cast. Now, after reading the articles of Clayton Jones about B&W
printing I wanted to try Black Only (BO) printing, but I think on an
Epson R270 there isn't the option "Black only" (there is the
"grayscale" option but I think it is not the same). Clayton Jones
mentioned that if the "Black only" option is absent I still can use a
RIP software to have a BO print.
    So my questions is:
    Can I use QTR with Epson R270 (for BO I guess I'll have to make a
custom curve using only the black ink). I saw in the supported printer
list the Epson R220 but I'm not sure about compatibility between R270
and R220.
