QTR-Quadtone RIP

I just started using / experimenting with a set of Con's K7 inks on an 
Epson 2200 printer. I actually ordered the split tone version of the 
inks. The gamma on the prints don't match my monitor unless I adjust 
the gamma in QTR to about 8 (which Cone specifically says you should 
not do). I created a monitor profile manually with Adobe Gamma. I do 
not have a color profiling system. Cam anyone give me a bit of 
direction? My gut says I'm missing something significant somewhere.
