I just got started, I have read the instructions carefully, but I feel 
lost.  Do I set up in CS23 print with preview? Then open QuadRip? And 
how will I know what changes I effect while adjusting curves in QuadRip?

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
