It may depend on your situation, but in mine (Epson 2100, UT3D, Photo Rag) it does make a difference. Not earth-moving, I'm happy with my 1440 prints as well, but 2880 is just that bit smoother. Some report also tiny microbanding issues at 1440 disappearing at 2880. Imho you MUST rebuild your profiles for 2880. Ink load is so much different for the two resolutions.
