Total beginner question...

2008-02-09 by msv087

Dear QTR experts,

I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question, but I'm having a difficult time getting the
Step-21x4-random.tif file to print out correctly!

I have a G5 Mac running OS X 10.4.11. I'm printing on an Epson 9800 and currently using
Epson Premium Luster Photo Paper. I want to use my Eye-One for linerarization, so I've
been attempting to get a print of the Step-21x4-random.tif file.

I've installed the QTR and can print out grayscale photographic images with good initial
results. I can also print out the Step-21x4-random.tif file with the Advanced BW driver
and it looks just fine.

However, when I attempt to print it using QTR, it comes out in color with very pale pastel
colors!

My method to attempt to print the target has been to open it in Photoshop CS3. I make no
adjustments to the image type (which is 8-bit Grayscale). I then Print With Preview. I
select "Quad9800" as my printer. Under Color Handling, I select "No Color Management".
Then, in the Print dialog box, the printer is set to "Quad9800". Under the QuadTone RIP
menu, I set Mode equal to "QuadTone RIP Calibration". Under Printer Features, I set Media
Type to "Premium Luster Photo Paper". Then I hit the "Print" button.

As I said it comes out in light pastel colors.

Incidentally, I *can* successfully print out the Ink Separation Test Page using QTR and
have used it with my EyeOne to figure out the Ink Limits. But, it's an RGB file, not
Grayscale.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Any suggestions on what to try?!

Thanks,
Mike
