Linearization of QuadToneRIP Curve via Eye-One Spectro

2008-04-02 by deanedennis33

I have looked through this discusion board and do not see any FAQs and any past
discussion on this topic. Maybe I'm overlooking something.

I'm attempting to optimism B&W printing on Epson 2200 using UT7 inks and QuadTone
RIP. Following instructions (no color management) included with QTR download I have
printed the QTR-21X4-random Reference file. Paper being used is MOAB entrada 300lb. This was printed via the QuadTone RIP using a 50/50 blend of UT7-EEnhMatte-cool and UT7-EEnhMatte-warm. This has been scanned using Eye-One Spectro with the "Measure"
tool included with ProfileMaker 5.

Below is the QTR-Linearize-Data

So far, so good. However this is where I get lost in the instructions provided with QTR.
The next step is to "Linearize a QuadTone RIP Curve." Instructions say: "To use this
feature, simply create the ink description file, doing the partition." QUESTION: Do I make
this "ink description" file from scratch; do I use one from the "Exampleinks" file; if I use
one from the Exampleinks file, which one do I use; or, is there another ink description file
located elsewhere that I need to use?

When I get the correct ink description file to work with (hopefully someone will inform me
of this), I know to change GRAY_HIGHLIGHT and GRAY_SHADOW fields to 6 and 8
respectively, as per instructions.

The next step has me making a quad curve from this new ink description file via, I believe,
by using the Drop-Quad-Profile.

I should next print the Step-21-gray stepwedge using this new quad curve and measure
as before.

The new Quad Ink Descriptor File will have the Linearization information that I am to "copy
and paste to be bottom of the ink description file." ANOTHER QUESTION: which ink
description file do I paste this into? and does this actually go, as the instructions list, just
at the bottom of the file under "UC_NEUTRALIZER=NO."

Once I have the correct ink description file modified with the new Linearization
information I am to reprocess the ink description file with Drop-Quad-Profile and
hopefully arrive at a perfect profile to print with.

Unless I'm missing something here completely, I am at a loss to see where any of the
information obtained in the first QTR-21X4-random Reference file and resulting
measurement is used in the development of the final profile.

Any help appreciated.
