QTR-Quadtone RIP

I am trying to linearise Epson VFA on a k7-2100, with the Cone HPR
2880 curves as the starting point.  What I am seeing is some black ink
smudging around the edges of the K100 patches (21*4 random chart).  I
take it that this is telling me that there is too much ink at that
point.  Is there anything else I should know?
