Don't know if this might have any bearing on it or not but I experienced a similar problem on XP and it eventually happened in any print mode including the epson driver. The only way I was able to get around it was to disable the print spooler in XP and print directly to the printer. I assume that the spooler was corrupted in some way. I have to say I'm less than thrilled about it but then that's a common condition for MS users I'm told by others.
