a change in display appearance with an "assign" is not unusual. The only thing that is happeningfor now, is how to display the numgers in your file. No change to the file itself is occurring. Letting Photoshop manage colors is a safety net, as we try to get to the bottom of these problems. Since you are selecting a profile that is the same as the file is already tagged, there is a "null" conversion, nothing is happening. So intent and BPC settings don't matter. It's a mess right now.
