Re: [QuadtoneRIP] differences between 1440 resolutions

2009-12-23 by Jim Thyer

David,

You asked this some time ago, and recently I have printed at all resolutions on my Epson R1800 as a test. This system has 4 options for 1440. Also tried 2880 and 720. Was using speed set to bidirectional for these tests.

The 2880 setting came out as though it was through a difusing screen, the sharpness had been lost.

The 702 came out pale, but similar in quality to 1440 super (see below).

These could be because the profile I generated (can't imediately track the file to confirm) was set for 1440 dpi.

Of the other options:

1440 lines of ink could be clearly seen across the page.

1440 super these lines could be seen, but less clearly

1440 x 1440 needed a magnifying lens to see these lines

1440 x 1440 super even with a reasonably strong lens (10x), picture appeared smooth, no trace of these lines.

Clearly as a result of this test I will only use the 1440 x 1440 super setting in future.

Sorry for the delay in getting this reply, hope it is of some help. Of the three options you mention I would suggest using the super 1440, but recommend printing a test picture using each setting and looking at the results with a magnifying lens. Best option should be clear.

Jim Thyer

Subject: [QuadtoneRIP] differences between 1440 resolutions

There are, I believe, three 1440 resolutions: 1440, 1440x1440, and super 1440. Can someone tell me what the differences are between these?

I read somewhere that 1440 super provides more "weaving" but I'm not sure what that is or what it means.

  Thanks, David.
