R280 printing problems resolved

2010-02-28 by purduephotog

Good Afternoon!

From previous posts you may have heard I was having serious issues with the R280 and the MIS quad tone inks. Nothing worked. The final straw was another install that stopped QTR from working at all (since resolved- I think it had to do with spaces in the file name).

But I never was able to print anything without the
Last night I had an epiphany- I would locate another profile that used 3 grey scale inks and copy those curves into mine and test it.

It didn't work.

I looked at the banding issues, changed it from "Adaptive Hybrid" to "Ordered" and for grins, also changed "1440" to "1440x1440 Super".

That change worked. In fact, it was the FIRST time I'd ever seen a greyscale printed by the software that wasn't screwed up (and by screwed up I mean look like someone had used a water color brush to mess with the tones).

Further experimentation has yielded the following results in order to properly print with the R280

(preliminary as I don't have a microdensitometer here)

Adaptive Hybrid / Ordered (either)
1440x1440 Super
Light/dark set to 0 each
and then the individual profile from
UT7-HP-Photorag-Sepia

Hope it helps someone else- and when I get time to do the final setups I'll post that one too.

Jason
