To clarify: The 7000 was identifying itself by its Europe model name. I switched it to the U.S. model name. This made a difference in getting my setup to work. The pdf explains the process for switching this pretty-well-hidden setting. --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "jespes" <jesse@...> wrote: > > Ah, I see. The print queue for the 7000 then begins jumping in the dock and when I open it, it tells me that the printer is off-line, when in fact it is plugged in and the paper is set to print. I can't just print anyway. That's when I go through the process of deleting, restarting and reinstalling the 7000 printer in order to print. My hope is that I can avoid that process. > > > > For instance, when printing today, I put paper into the 7000 and hit the pause button. The paper began to move into position and the printer gave out a big clunk. The lcd panel said there was a paper jam and that I had to turn off the power. Turning off the printer made it impossible to print, as I've described, and I had to do the dance (delete, shut down, reinstall) in order to get back to printing. > > > > > > Mark > > > > > > --- In QuadtoneRIP@yahoogroups.com, "jespes" <jesse@> wrote: > > > > > > > > > Hello, > > > I'm the one who got the 7000 running per earlier postings. Mine always indicates "offline" in the menus on the Mac, but still prints. So the setup obviously isn't perfect. Have you tried just printing anyway? I use Snow Leopard, not Leopard, which might (or might not) matter. > > > > > > It's been awhile but as I recall, to get it working, the key adjustments on the printer side were to tell it not to use its european model name and set it to USB (not Ethernet as previous owner had done). I have a Mac Mini, running 10.5.8(?), and an Epson 7000 running Cone's NK-6 inkset. I find that I regularly go to print and am told that the printer is off line, when it is not. I seems to happen when I have turned the printer off and then on again while the computer has stayed on- to run a KK2 cleaning for instance. > > > > > > > > If I delete the troublesome printer and restart the computer, leaving the printer on, and try to reinstall the printer with the "install7000-k6" command in the "7500-9500-K6" folder, I am told that the printer cannot be found, that it must be plugged in etc. when all these things are true. > > > > > > > > If I delete the printer in the print and fax prePane(both the quad7000 and the epson 7000), then turn off the printer, shut down the computer, restart the printer first, followed by starting the computer, the install command will work, until next time. > > > > > > > > In the "about this mac" dialog, I see that the printer is identified in the same way when it has been found by QTR and when it is invisible to QTR. > > > > > > > > Can Roy, or someone else, help simplify this process or do I have to continue this dance in order to use such an old, but very functional, machine? > > > > > > > > Thanks, > > > > Mark > > >
