Re: Hahnemuhle Fine Art Baryta 325 Digital Fine Art Paper and Selenium K7 Over Gloss

Christoper,

We released these systems as matte only prior to releasing the glossy upgrade, and the gloss curves and GO curve are not yet part of the QTR download. What we do is provide two custom curves for the customer on papers of their choice. Too many new glossy baryta papers were releasing for us to keep up with it.

I'm sorry if you missed the description of our free custom curves in the product. We will contact you on Monday to begin that process unless we already have the paper/printer combo curves for you.

We are nearly ready to release a large assortment of glossy curves to Roy Harrington for his next QTR update. These will cover the range of printers we support.

FYI, how Piezography produces gloss is to use a second printing of gloss optimizer so that there is absolutely no gloss differential between any ink shade and the paper. That is a pet peeve of mine as both ABW and HP have not figured out a process yet to hide the gloss differential. I do not like seeing shadows that have less reflection than the paper or more. Silver print does not do that and we try to replicate silver print. On most papers, this second overprint removes all bronzing. However, some of the baryta papers are very prone to bronzing. My own Type5 paper is perfect for Piezography but also improves things on ABW and HP.

A correct curve for the paper is selected and the image is printed as usual... The print will look odd at this point as the curve we create is dependent upon the GO for linearization. A quick dry with a hair dryer is required. Then any size image that is a pure white canvas is printed with the GO curve back over the print - which produces a clear overprint over the entire sheet. It is quick drying. The linearization from dMin to dMax will now appear perfect.

We will contact you on Monday.
