It depends on the inkset in use, but the toners are for adjusting the print tone towards warm/cold/sepia/selenium tones depending on what colour options are present in the inkset. Not necessarily relevant when using QTR to print negatives! (Use of them is largely a black art ... I'm not aware of any online instructions for creating them.)
