problem printing the inkseparation file

2012-01-11 by amothol

Hi,
I am new to BW printing, actually I am able to print through the epson driver with an icc profile.

In QuadToneRIP I am not able to overcome a problem in the very beginning:
The print of inkseparation.tif looks not good, I expected to see 21 steps of densities for each ink but the prints have sudden big steps (for example ink 7 between 45 and 50) and also important color changes (for example ink 6 between 35 and 40). The scans of the prints can be seen here:

I choose the file inkseparation.tif (from the QuadToneRIP CurveDesign images folder) because there are 7 inks as in the Epson 4000. In Photoshop CS2 in Print with preview i choose "no colormanagement", the file is still "Untagged RGB".

In Quad4000 dialogue box I klick "QuadToneRIB calibration" and "calibration ink limit" to 100% for 07.jpg and 30% for 10.jpg. (Photo Ink was also selected).

If someone has an idea what is going wrong here I would really appreciate to know. Than you.

The UT-3D inkset is installed in an Epson 4000 printer, QTR 2.7.2, MacOS 1.6.8.

Despite printing an untagged file with no colormanagement there was some unwanted and hidden color management going on. By printing the inkseparation.tif file through Adobe Color Printer Utility the print came out as expected. Thank's for the help I have got.
