Unable to print using Epson 7600 with UT-7 ink

Unable to print using Epson 7600 with UT-7 ink

2012-01-27 by dwight_talley

I am new to QuadtoneRIP and have tried to read the tutorial but its menu does not match the current version. I am running what I think I installed which is 2.7.2 but it states 2.7 at the top of the screen.
Using Windows 7 on a quad computer and a print server attached to the printer.

Print outs are all very dark, so dark you can just see detail in bright light. Mostly a black page in other words. If I print using another program, perfect printout. So I am thinking there is a setting I have not gotten right.

Printer is set for Quad7600 K7, which I think is the settings for the UT-7 black inks.
Printing model is Quad7600-K7

Resolution is set to 1400 but I have trid 2880 with no change.

Curve setup has limited choices so I chose K7-2880 Epson Enhanced Matte, which is the paper I am using. No clue what the 2880 means but setting and printing at 2880 does not make a difference.

That is all I have done. Printing from here gives me a black page with detail in the dark print.

As a side note, the image is adjusted to fit the 24 inch wide page, but the printout does not scale down and cuts off about 5 to six inches of width of the image.

So, there it is, the printout is very dark and I have not been able to fix it even though printing in another program works perfectly.

Thanks
Dwight

No, K7 is for Jon Cone's K7 inkset, not MIS UT7.

See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/UT7-7600-Readme.htm for my write up of
the UT7 inkset. I don't know that I made any QTR profiles. At the time I
assumed QTR users made their own profiles.

For an Epson driver workflow, the curves I made may be able to be up into
ICCs using QTR Create ICC-RGB and make a nice workflow.

It's a higher resolution printing setting. I usually use it for maximum
smoothness.

I suspect some of the people in this forum have UT7 curves they would share.

Good luck,

Thanks for the quick reply. I was following advice from the MIS site and also the QuadToneRIP printer and inks supported listing. I will reveiw your writeup and hope someone has the files needed to use this software. Hate to have bought it and not be able to use it. I don't have a way to make profiles here.
