Epson 4900 curve conversion

Epson 4900 curve conversion

2012-02-26 by James

I've updated from an Epson 4000 to a 4900 and note support in 2.7.2 for it but there are no curve files for it in the files section. As I read the 2.7.2 FAQ, the 4000 curve files will work with the 4900 using the corresponding 8 colors but ignoring OR and GR. These added colors can be configured manually though. Has any one tried this? If so, could you upload them to a (new) Epson 4900 files section? Thanks! Jim

Not sure where you are looking. There are quite a few curves for the
4900 in 2.7.2
If you are on a Mac maybe you didn't run the Install4900 script.
Also, its the 4880 curves that should work on 4900 not the 4000 curves.

Dear Roy, I was referring to any 4900 curves uploaded to this forum. In particular, for those like me who make palladium prints from digital negatives created on transfilm by the 4900. I have many excellent curves for this process and hoped not to have to start over from scratch. Ron Reeder's chemistry and calibration have worked really well for me on the 4000. I'm thinking I should have tried to find a 4880 rather than the 4900? On the other hand, it shouldn't be too hard to create a new one, but perhaps linked to the 8 colors rather than 10? (because the graph won't show all 10 at once?) this may take some pondering!

Dear Roy,

I've completed my curve correction for the 4900 and have posted about this on my blog at http://senseofpast.blogspot.com - thanks. Roy, for your good notes. I was able to make a good curve based on orange!

The specific posting: http://senseofpast.blogspot.com/2012/04/curves-for-corrected-print.html
Best.
