Creating QTR Curves with QTR-Print-Tool and ColorPort

Creating QTR Curves with QTR-Print-Tool and ColorPort

2012-11-28 by nmenghardt

Hello All,

I've created a tutorial for our students on how to create QTR Curves using Scott Martin's ColorPort XML files and an i1Pro from X-Rite. You should be able to adopt a similar workflow using the same softwares with other spectros, etc.

You can see Scott's excellent tutorial here: http://www.on-sight.com/2012/02/22/using-colorport-for-qtr-grayscale-and-alt-process-measurement-and-profiling/

Using ColorPort is necessary only for users on Mac OS X 10.7.x. Anyone still using 10.6.8 or below can still make use of ProfileMaker 5.

I've placed a PDF in the files section of the yahoo group in the files/qtr-print-tool folder detailing the process. I will be creating some how-to videos regarding using the print tool and creating curves with the print tool and colorport at the end of December. Classes will be over and I'll have more time to put forth to creating easier to use and access tutorials for students.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this process, I'll be more than happy to offer any assistance I can.

Thanks and happy measuring,

Hi Don,
Unfortunately I have not had the time - perhaps this summer after the semester ends and the Santa Fe Printing Workshop is finished.
Until then, feel free to use this handy guide I created on our How To wiki:

The wiki is geared towards using an i1pro device as that is what we use in our labs, however ColorPort is capable of handling other devices as well.

Hope this helps for now.

Thanks for that Nick.

The big question I have regarding this process is how to print the target in the first place.

I'm using QTRGui and an image file can't be printed without using selecting a curve. IOW, how can I print the target without a curve?

Thanks,

Don Bryant

guide at http://www.quadtonerip.com/User%20Guide.pdf starting on about
page 11

Thanks for pointing to that, Mike. I don't work in a Windows environment so I don't have experience with that workflow. I'll have to get a windows VM up and running to test some day.
