New Printer, no b/w print

New Printer, no b/w print

2013-01-20 by Jerry

I recently changed printers from my old Epson R260 to a new Epson Artisan 730. I have used the QuadToneRIP successfully in the past but cannot seem to get it to work with the 730. It uses the same inks as the 260, but different carts. I like to do BO prints. I downloaded and installed the newest version of QTR for Windows (I am using Win7 Pro x64). QTR recognizes the 730 but IDs the model as the 260. I seem to be able to select an image, but when I select "print" it seems to just stall and never connect with the printer.

Any advice from others out there>

Let me try this again . . .

I am planning on returning to B/W printing after some time away. My current printer is an Epson Artisan 730 pumping 6 Claria color inks and using PS5. Upgrading to a WC is not in the cards. I have the correct empty carts for the 730 and would like to fill them with bulk FSN inks while using the Epson driver. This is not one of the 6 color printers shown on MIS website for FSN but hoping someone out there has some advice on using this combination. MIS was a nonstarter. My contact did not even know they still sold carts for the 730, they do! I am hoping that since the 730 uses the same inkset as my old 260 I can use the CMCMY setup as described by Paul Roark. Maybe even a BO set up using Eboni. Comments and advice welcomed.

The 730 printer is not supported. Its possible that its compatible
but you might have to
try a couple different printers (260, 280).

As long as you have the carts and MIS continues to supply those (getting
old) inks, the MIS pigments and the CMCMY approach should work fine.
You'll need to use a Epson driver workflow, but with that inkset such a
workflow works well. You'll probably have to make some adjustments to the
Photoshop curves that exist for a few other printers where I've set up this
CMCMY ink arrangement Once you get close, QTR's Create ICC-RGB will allow
a very nice ICC workflow.

Good luck,

Paul
