Epson 2400 & QTR

According to what I read, the Epson 2400 is a good printer for a chemical (4x5) b&w darkroom guy to start working with inkjet b&w. It also seems clear that Roy Harrington's QTR adds significantly to achieving high quality b&w inkjet prints. Would someone explain what QTR adds to b&w inkjet prints made on the 2400 using the color inks? Thanks in advance.
