9 ink printer drivers

9 ink printer drivers

2014-01-01 by <tyler@...>

Does anyone know if the 3000 and 3880 qtr drivers allow access to all 9 inks or one must always select one of the OEM black cart positions at the expense of the availability of the other? I suspect it's hardwired in to the firmware or something. but before letting my imagination go crazy and getting one of those printers..
Thanks and Happy New Year

at least for the 3880 you need to select one or the other never both at the same time,

It is a mechanical situation, not firmware. There are only eight channels in the actual print head and you select which black is fed to the black channel.

?? The 3880 takes only 8 cartridges, unfortunately.

Hi Tyler,

All those newer printers with 9 carts have only 8 channels in the print head. (x900's have 11 carts and 10 channels).
Which black ink you want has to be selected before printing -- it does a mini-flush and re-load if the type changes.
So there's no way you could ever use both blacks on one print.

The only Epson printers that had such a capability were the R1800, R1900 and R2000. They were 8 inks & 8 channels,
and all usable. The one other printer that was unusual was the 4000 which had 8 inks and 8 channels but worked
as a 7 ink printer -- selecting one of the blacks before printing.

got it, should have been obvious to a 9900 owner! Thanks all... always dreaming of more inks for custom setups... better stop musings on holidays.
