11880 printing incorrectly

11880 printing incorrectly

2014-05-16 by jonus7@...

Hi there,

This is my first time posting as I've recently started a new job with printing lab that utilizes QTR in a Mac environment on an Epson 9890, 11880 and a 9600 set up to run quad tone inks. As of this moment the 11880 has started to print incorrectly, it skews the images, and prints them very lightly. It only does this when QTR is being used, it still prints color out of PS perfectly fine. To make this even more confusing both the 9890 and the Quad9600 print correctly from Print-tool and QTR, only the 11880 is affected. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. This is my first time dealing with QTR and the associated software.

I'm really needing some help with this issue, I've never worked QTR before at any of my printing jobs, and I've tried everything I can think of to address the issues that I'm experiencing with no luck at all.

The 11880 when using QTR is printing files as if they are "draft quality" or lower. No matter the file, the size or the type, they all print the same way. The 9890 and 9600 both print the same files correctly. I was not the one who installed this software nor is he available to troubleshoot this, so as of now, I'm pretty much flying blind with no tech support at all. Not a very happy place to be in when you actually need the printer for the business.

Have you checked the paper-curve combination, the right "black" installed , maximum printer resolution, and if you are printing on the ink-receptive side of you paper?? (the good side)

Can you tell us some more detailed Information about the QTR Settings you are using and your paper type?

I wrote a really long response to this post this morning but I guess its disappeared into the ether. So here it goes again. I've never used this software before in any setting, personal or business, so bare with me.

I've attempted to print test files and a personal image of my own, all of them correctly sized, 16bit TIFF files saved out of PS in "QTR-Grey" profile. I've used both "HP Premium Gloss", and "HP Instant-Dry Satin"with the exactly the same results. The files start to print, but at a greatly reduced resolution, the printer then hangs and ceases to print at about 30% completion, I end up having to physically reset the printer, it will not complete a print. The files have been printed with the "QTR Print Tool", Print Tool 2, and through the print dialog in PS CS5.1. The files are printed on the appropriate channels and at the appropriate resolutions, the paper is loaded into the machine correctly, and the 11880 has absolutely no problems when printing color, its currently printing a 60" advance of Canson VFA at the moment without issue.

The files will print correctly on both the 9890 and the 9600 Quad-Tone. I have screen shots of the print settings, the files used, the incorrect results and anything else anyone needs to see, ready to share on Dropbox. I'm pulling my hair out at this point. This printer is a very important part of our business's workflow and I cannot have it down much longer....any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated.

I´m running really crazy things through my Epson 3880 and 9890 printers - I´m printing on glass sheets which are coated with a special ink-receptive layer. I had lots of errors to manage, before I got my first usefull print.

Are you sure that the 11880 Printer is supported by QTR?? I cannot find any curves in the QTR files for it, I´ve found one Folder but no profiles.

I´m printing from Mac/Mavericks through Print Tool and QTR.

Please check the Settings in QTR, if they are really dedicated to the 11880 Printer, on the other Hand you should contact Roy Harrington directly in that issue.

Thanks for the reply. I too have wondered if the 11880 is actually supported. I sent an email to Mr. Harrington about this a couple days ago but he hasn't gotten back to me. I can assure you though, that there are built profiles on this system for an 11880, and I have, until 6 days ago, I printed quite a bit through QTR with the 11880.
