QTR-Quadtone RIP

I tried adding a couple new QTR Curves via the Install9880.command today and ran in to a doozy of an issue.

System Specs: Mac 10.9.4, QTR v.2.7.5, Print Tool v.1.1.0

All of our printers are networked, so I added the printers in system preferences as bonjour printers with the following naming scheme:

Quad9880-PK (this printer uses the Epson Photo Black ink set). We also have a pair of 4880's and 7800's with Photo Black and Matte black ink sets; their printer names and Install####.command files are named accordingly. I'll stick with the 9880 in this case which has an install.cmd file named Install98800-PK.command. Using this naming scheme has always worked in the past and was made necessary due to the multiple printers.

Here's a step by step of what I'm running in to:

Install the printer via System Preferences using the name Quad9880-PK and using the QuadToneRIP 2.7.5 Epson 9880 software (as suggested in the Print Tutorial.pdf).

I open Print Tool to check that I can select the Quad9880-PK printer and make sure that the QuadTone RIP options are available to select curves, etc, before I sent my print job.

Quit Print Tool.

Locate the Install9880-PK.command file in Applications/QuadToneRIP/Profiles/4880-7880-9880-PK/Install9880-PK.command and run the command. I usually have to set permissions on Library/Printers/QTR/quadtone/ so everyone can read/write and apply to contents so the folder can be created.

Here's the fuzzy part. After the install command finishes the kind of printer installed is removed (if you open System Preferences and select a printer, you can see what driver it's using by looking at the line labeled "Kind:"). If I run the install command with system preferences open, I can actively watch that line go from the correct "QuadToneRIP 2.7.5 Epson 9880" to blank. Looking in Library/Printers/QTR/quadtone, I can see that the Quad9880-PK folder is added with all the correct curves, but when I open Print Tool to send a print to the Quad9880-PK printer, the only options that show while clicking ';Layout' are Layout, Paper Handling, and Cover page. The QuadTone RIP option to select a curve is gone.

One other thing I noticed in the whole process is that at the end of the Terminal window when the install command is done running, I get this line:

";Finished Installing Curves for Quad9880_PK"

The install command seems to be changing my printer name from using a dash to an underscore.

I've tried removing the Quad9880-PK printer from system preferences (as well deleting the Quad9880-PK folder from /Library/Printers/QTR/quadtone/) and installing with all appropriate names changed to Quad9880_PK to match, but there's no luck.

I looked through the /Library/Printers/QTR/bin/quadinstall exec file that Install9880-PK.command calls and noticed a section that checks for the OS changing the dash in to an underscore, but I'm not horribly familiar with this type of coding, so I don't know exactly what it';s doing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I know there's a lot of detail to sift through in my message, but I figured I'd be as thorough as possible.

Yeah, I can't get borderless printing to work, either. Normally I've just printed on a larger sheet and used a rotatrim for full-bleed printing.

Tried creating a custom paper size with zero margins and QTR set the margins to their default values. I then tried setting up the page in Print Tool using the Epson Driver which has borderless options available, but that did the same thing.

I opened the PPD file for our Quad9880 printer out of curiosity and it seems like custom paper dimensions could be added in which the margins are set to the very edges of the paper, thus creating system supported borderless printing options.

If I have time this week, I'll see if I can try futzing with that. Seems like it could be FUN.
