strange printing problem

strange printing problem

2014-12-16 by arnnad@...

I have Win7-64 and print infrequently but never had this occur before. I downloaded the latest version of QTR but when I printed the size was smaller than expected. Another print produced the correct size but the lower portion of the image faded out as if a gradient was applied.

Puzzled, I uninstalled QTR and then reinstalled the latest version. I should note that despite the warning that all settings would be cleared by uninstalling, this didn't happen. The ink and file settings from the uninstalled QTR were there on the new installation.

Anyway, the new installation seemed to work yesterday but the problem of an incomplete, faded lower image has recurred.

When this first happened I made a test print simply using PS and not QTR, which produced a correctly sized image.

I'd considered reinstalling the previous QTR version but hoped you folks could help me from just casting about in the dark.

Thanks

What size Printer/Paper/Image area did this happen with?

The Epson 1400 through the 2880 need about an inch of margin top and bottom—something to do with the paper feed and dithering. People refer to it as micro banding. As for the smaller size, there is probably an option to fit to media that sizes it within the default paper margin of 1/8-1/4 inch.

Thanks for your response, Richard. I'm using an Epson 2200 and paper size was 5x7. To update, I reinstalled the prior Win 7 version of 2.7.0.2 and everything worked fine. The problem occurred with 2.7.0.5. Never had the margin issues before.

I tossed out the defective print but I recall that the print faded over the course of about 1" into an unprinted area about one third of the paper. The print above the fade appeared normal..

I hadn't tried running additional test prints to confirm everything is back to normal but at this point I can only conclude there's a bug in the v. 2.7.0.5.

Thanks
