New 1430 microbanding far more than an old 1400

New 1430 microbanding far more than an old 1400

2015-02-02 by asharpe@...

Hi folks,

I've just converted my 1430 into a BO printer, the same way I did my 1400.
I'm using QTR to drive it. On a tiny 4"x6" test print, the microbanding
starts nearly an inch from the edge. On the 1400, almost a full bleed of
the 4x6 print would work. I haven't tried a larger print, but on the 1400,
I certainly got some microbanding if I came closer to the edge than 1/2"
on a 13x19 print, but not on the smaller ones.

Has anyone else encountered more microbanding on a 1430 than a 1400 using
a BO workflow?

Andrew

It is not just with the BO workflow. Printing through QTR with any ink set or any number of partitions with this little guy requires a a full inch of top and bottom border. I thought something was broken with my black channel because I kept having bands in ink separation page. But I was just assuming that it performed the same as the 3800 and I always print test prints as close together as possible so I can run one sheet multiple times. This whole 1 inch thing costs a lot of paper and really limits the size of your prints unless you want to start moving up to larger/longer paper sized.

Hmm. I didn't have this problem with the Epson inkset and the Mac Epson
driver, though. Only with BO and QTR.

Hi,

With my 1500W which is the same as a 1430 I have the same problem when using BO , one reason why I am keeping my old 1270 which seems less prone to it.

From all I have read it is something to do with the paper feed rollers and differences in how the epson driver and qtr dithers the inks near the leading and trailing edge of the print head.
