Problems using QTR to print with Epson R2400

2005-10-18 by photofan21

I have been experimenting with QTR on the Epson 2200 and Epson R2400
printers using Photoshop CS2 on a Windows XP system. I get lovely
neutral B&W prints with very good tonal range using the 2200 with Epson
matte black ink on Epson Enhanced Matte paper or Hahnemuhle Photo Rag.

When I try printing on the Epson R2400 with Photo Black ink and Epson
Premium Luster paper the resulting image is very dark with poor tonal
range, especially in the mid tones which are almost black. I used
the "Epson Stylus Photo R2400" Printer Name setting and "QuadR2400"
Printing Model in QTR and have tried converting the 8 bit grayscale
image to either QTR-Photo Gray or QTR-Matte Gray before printing. I
have also tried the Matte Paper and the Premium Luster Photo Paper
Media Type settings in QTR. None of these work on the 2400, although
the same image prints well on my 2200. I'm clearly doing something
wrong. Does anyone have any suggestions?
