Curve Creation Failed--Why?
2005-10-22 by John Hollenberg
I am trying to create a Sepia toned curve for EVFA on Epson 2200. All goes well until I try to create the curve after linearizing. Get the message: "Invalid linearize curve - not constantly increasing. Curve Creation Failed." I know the problem isn't in the measurements--measured with Eye-One 3 times and compared them. Worst difference comparing measurement sets was Delta L of 0.5, average was 0.16. Here is the QIDF file: PRINTER=Quad2200 CURVE_NAME=UCmk-EVFA-sepia GRAPH_CURVE=YES N_OF_INKS=7 DEFAULT_INK_LIMIT=80 BOOST_K=90 LIMIT_K= LIMIT_C= LIMIT_M= LIMIT_Y=10 LIMIT_LC=9 LIMIT_LM=29 LIMIT_LK=56 N_OF_GRAY_PARTS=2 GRAY_INK_1=K GRAY_VAL_1=100 GRAY_INK_2=LK GRAY_VAL_2=27 GRAY_HIGHLIGHT=6 GRAY_SHADOW=6 GRAY_OVERLAP= GRAY_GAMMA=1 GRAY_CURVE= N_OF_TONER_PARTS=0 TONER_HIGHLIGHT=2 TONER_SHADOW=2 TONER_GAMMA=1 TONER_CURVE= N_OF_TONER_2_PARTS=0 TONER_2_HIGHLIGHT=10 TONER_2_SHADOW=10 TONER_2_GAMMA=1 TONER_2_CURVE= N_OF_UNUSED=2 UNUSED_INK_1=C UNUSED_INK_2=M COPY_CURVE_Y=LK COPY_CURVE_LC=LK COPY_CURVE_LM=LK LINEARIZE="98.32 92.64 85.74 78.50 71.71 65.84 59.96 54.50 49.84 45.98 42.46 38.37 35.21 30.92 28.80 25.68 21.89 21.02 18.82 17.76 15.33" Any ideas what the problem might be? I started with settings for Entrada Natural Sepia for Epson 2200. Moved the Black boost back to 90, Gray ink density measured to be 27 on EVFA (rather than 28 for Entrada). Other values left the same, except for clearing the linearization data before saving and printing the 21 step wedge. --John
