Is Epson blocking further use of QTR ?

Ken,

The reports so far are that the P[6789]000 printers work fine with
the older print drivers. Someone used a P9000 with the 9900 with success.
Using Piezo means getting cart chips so they can load custom inks.

The bigger ones P10000 and P20000 are different enough that the
old drivers are pretty sure not to work. I guess there's a chance
they could be made to work but without one to work on for a while its
a long shot.

Is it true that Epson has made changes to their latest printers to thwart the use of QTR and other non-OEM inks/drivers ? See http://shop.inkjetmall.com/Shop-By-Printer/Epson-SureColor-P6000/

re Piezo and refill carts.

There will hopefully be some good news on the P800 model soon but I can’t say anything for a while.

If we can get the P800, we can probably go to P9000 and P10x/20x models with similar technique. If that is the case, we’ll get the machines in and work on testing w/ QTR.

All of this is still an IF not a WHEN although it’s a much more hopeful IF than it was a few months ago.

cheers all,
Walker

If I follow correctly, there are 2 issues: 1) Cartridges which can be loaded with non-OEM inks and 2) driver software compatibility.

For 1) is it a matter of time before someone provides them ?

For 2) do you suppose that newer versions of QTR or PrintTool will support newer Epson drivers ?

Silly question, anyway to just piggyback your ink carts through Epson’s ink carts? So it thinks (and knows) its a OEM cart but the ink is bypassed through it to the ink port. I don’t know how you would solve the printer thinking the cart was empty from the chip reading although. Or is it as simple as prying the OEM chip off and putting it on your carts? Of course then you end up with full Epson inks in useless carts.

Print-Tool is an app and supports any of the drivers - Epson or QTR driver right now.
QTR driver seems fine so far with all new printers except P10K and P20K. No idea if they will ever work but I'll try if I can get a chance (i.e. Access to one).
