QTR version question

QTR version question

2016-07-11 by paulmwhiting@...

Looks like I need an update, but I'm a bit confused, wondering what version I actually have. I see on Roy's website the latest version is 2.7.7.

When I look at the About menu, I see several components - what version do I have? Seems to vary with the component.

QTRGui 2.7.0.0 This is the version shown at the top of my GUI .(I do know this component has reached its final update because the author is no longer around.)

but:

Image to Raster 2.7.3.0
Quad to Printer 2.7.6.0
Raw Print 2.3.0.0
Quad Profile 2.7.5.0

So does the download version, listed as 2.7.7.0, update all these components, or just some, or ...?

Thanks,

Paul W.

Paul,

You've got the latest version for Windows.
2.7.7 is Mac specific only -- so 2.7.6 is the latest QTR driver for Windows (that's the QuadToPrinter module).
Unfortunately I am unable to change the version number of the QTRgui program so that's why its 2.7.0.0

Thanks, Roy, I see... so in the list of components, the one I should pay attention to is the one named "Quad to Printer" module - it's very useful to know that. I did know that about the GUI... that issue came up a while back here.

While I have you (I guess I'm going to be guilty of some thread drift here!), I'm having a sizing problem. I thought a QTR update might help me, so this problem is related to my OP in some fashion. There's a script developed by someone over on the Photoshop Elements and More website. The script converts a color image into a black and white simulated sketch image - works on the full-blown version of Photoshop also. My color original was 3000 x 4000 pixels and its b/w version was the same. I wanted to print on a 5x7 sheet of paper but when I reduced it in QTR to about 600 x 800 pixels its print size on paper was not 5x7 but more like 2x3 inches. I tried reducing the image outside of QTR at various sizes but it always printed at about 2x3. These numbers are approximate, but you get the idea.

Any ideas? It's not a hugely serious issue, so don't spend a lot of time on it.. just thought it might be something simple. I asked over in that other website but they were not familiar with QTR.

Wait a minute - maybe this is the problem: even though the version produced by this script is b/w, that's just the overlay. The original color layer is "underneath" and perhaps that color information is confusing QTR. Do you think?

Thanks for your key role in quality b/w printing!

Regards,

Paul

My guess is that you are using JPG files. TIFFs work much better.
The issue is that jpg's have multiple ways of specifying size and libraries, defaults, and programs
vary -- so some are compatible and some aren't.
