Novice QuadTone RIP Question

Novice QuadTone RIP Question

2016-09-09 by howardgrill1@...

Sorry, about the 'beginner' question but I wasn't sure where I could find this out....

I was considering purchasing the Quadtone RIP to try to make linearized profiles for black and white printing. Two pretty basic questions:

1) On the website it seems to say that Windows 8 is the last version of Windows that it is clearly compatible with. Is it compatible with 64 bit Windows 10?

2) My printer is a large format Canon, which I understand is not supported. My only user would be to make profiles. Will the RIP in any way interact with my printing from PS using the Canon driver?

Thanks.

Thanks Bruce. I will hold off for the moment then. I aM relatively new to profiling and I think having difficulty with the software/OS as well as learning the linearization procedure at the same time prob not a great idea. Have there been others that have not had a problem with W10, or does that difficulty seem pretty widespread? Are there any plans for a W10 upgrade as far as you know?

Thanks

I cant speak for others regarding their experience on a PC with Windows 10 and Quad Tone RIP. I had pasted some questions on the Forum and only received a few responses. I did hear that there were no plans for an upgrade to make it more compatible for those of us who use a PC and Windows 10.

If you are only going to use the create ICC tools for your Canon printer you should be fine with Windows 10. Those tools are just programs you drop a measurement file on and you get an ICC profile.

Otter Win10 problems: Has anyone else tried just double clicking a .qidf file to install it? I'be been testing some new profiling tools I made and I've been doing this double click to install on Win10 using VMware and all the profiles install and print just fine. No need for the QTRgui curve creation tools/problems.

Bruce
QTR on the win10 platform works fine and has no issues with interfering with normal printing using just PS. Note that I am using both 3880 and 3800, not a canon printer.

While Apple users have additional tools - the basic QTR is just fine for PC.
Best regards
Don

Thanks....yes, since my Epson 7900 printhead died for the third time I decided to go Canon. So yes, would just be using the 'create an icc profile' from QTR. Sounds like things would be OK with that on W10.
