I have been using QTR without issues for years and I'm quite comfortable with it, technically speaking.
Today I have installed it on a friends computer to drive his Epson 4800 (K3 UC inkset), but it would only print in black and white (digital negatives). The printer was correctly installed and shows in QTR, so do the profiles. I have also tried to run his printer from my laptop, same issue, so I exclude a faulty installation. The profile we used is one I made for my Epson P800, placed in his 4800 quidf folder and installed, it should be compatible, right?
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Sidney

Since it is not possible to edit a post, I want to precise that the issue is happening on a Mac. The profile used has colored inks, but only the 3 black channels seem to print.

Are you using Print Tool?

Sidney,
Would you clarify how you printed the profile? Software and settings?
I assume you were using PS or some other editing software since you mention the use of a qidf file, which indicates use of a Windows PC.

Yes.
We have tried printing directly from PS via QTR without Print Tool, same thing, only the bw channels seem to print, not the color. (My profile uses all colors)

You say you are printing from a Mac, but you also refer to qidf files which are for Windows. If your curve files actually are in qidf format, try changing the extension to txt and reinstall.

Sandy,
Only Mac's are used here and I always use Print Tool to print my images via QTR, with great success (no color management, only the profile via QTR). I do use a virtual PC on my Mac to create my profiles, as the QTR interface on PC is much more intuitive, and it works great with my P800.
It's my friends Epson 4800 that does not seem to communicate with the color channels using QTR. I use a straight line profile similar to yours, PK, Y and LK with all other colors in small amounts to prevent nozzle clog, but the neg always comes out bw (we have tried with two different computers, reinstalled QTR, dumped and reinstalled the Quad Printer, restarted the computer after every modification). As I mentioned before, all colors are integrated into the profile, but only the 3 blacks seem to create the image. All nozzles are firing on the printer, so it is not a physical issue. The same profile prints perfect with my P800.

Thanks for your input, Keith.
I handle/safe all my profiles as txt files, using my virtual PC and physical Mac, simply because it allows to see how the profile is build.

Sidney,
OK, there should not be any difference in printing that profile with MAC with Print Tool and Windows. Many people I know are using the single gray value straight line profile with Windows with no issues so I suspect some kind of color management issue where the image file is being converted to gray scale and only the black inks are printing, as they might in some versions of monochrome printing with the color driver.

Sidney,
One other thought. Have a look at the .quad file view in Windows after you install the profile, assuming one can do that in Windows as in Mac. In the .quad view you should be able to see exactly which colors are printing. With the straight line single gray value profile that I have promoted there should be one yellow curve, and two black ones, plus of course the combined curve. And of course, if you have linearized the curve the correction should show in the .quad file.
Looking at the profile in .quad view should clarify if the issue is a profile or profile install issue, or a color management issue.

Can you post the contents of the qidf text file?
And, with the low ink limits that you mentioned you might not even see the color inks printing. Plus, depending on the Limit in the Yellow channel you might not see that either. And when you say it prints perfectly with the P800 you might just be seeing the difference in the density of the new sure color K3 inks compared to the older epson k3 inks.
Hope that helps,

I had a technician inspect the printer, print head is dead :-/
Thanks for all the input, problem solved.
