QTR installation problem

QTR installation problem

2018-02-11 by john.isner@...

I'm a new user, just getting started. I plan to use QTR with piezoDN for creating digital negatives.

When I installed QTR on my Windows 7 PC, I checked both "Printing Software" and "Curve Creation Tools." When I launched QTRGui after installation, I got the following error:

"insufficient folder privileges for profile creation"

and I noticed that Tools -> Curve Creation was grayed out.

When I re-ran QTRGui as administrator. I no longer got the error message. Furthermore, Tools -> Curve Creation was no longer grayed out.

The User Guide says

Show quoted textHide quoted text

"The curve files are stored in the Profiles sub-folder in the folder where QuadToneRIP Was installed. If you didn’t change that during installation, they will be in: C:\ProgramFiles\QuadToneRIP\Profiles."

Does QTR assume that all users on the same machine share the same set of curves? If so, then when creating curves, the program must be run as administrator. But the User Guide does not mention this. Otherwise, the program should have a default location for each user, for example

D:\Users\John\AppData\QuadToneRIP\Profiles

The manual has a typo in it.

The curves are in C:\ProgramFiles\QuadToneRIP\QuadTone\Your-Curve-Folder (in your case QuadYourPrinterMode-PiezoDN)

For reference, here is the guide: https://piezography.com/install-delete-quadtonerip-curves/

The problem is that I get an error if I run QTRGui as a normal user (not admin)

"insufficient folder privileges for profile creation"

Then I do not have Curve Creation in the Tools menu.

But if I run QTRGui as administrator, all is good.

I was surprised that the manual doesn't mention this.

I did experience curve creation issues although I have administrator's rights on my machine (Win 10). Re-installing the software in an alternate location (in my case c:\tools\QuadToneRIP) solved all my problems.

The only thing you really need is the QTR-Linearize-Quad droplet which lives in your QuadtoneRIP application folder (inside of a subfolder I think). This is the droplet you drag and drop smoothed measurements and .quad curves to. I always suggest copying both the .quad and measurement file to the desktop before linearizing.

It sounds frustrating but the admin restriction (most likely a system security setting that is turned on) is actually good as these curves live in Program Files and not in a user-directory.

Best,
Walker

Ilford Gold Mono Silk Paper

2018-02-12 by Truman Prevatt

Has anyone used Ilford Gold Mono Silk? If so opinions and what is the closest QTR profile that supports it?

Thanks,
Truman

Thanks, Walker. I'm nowhere near ready to make quad files. I'm just getting started, and need to study the manual before I do anything else. But I'm relieved to hear that the admin restriction on QTRGui is not a bug.

Claude,
That would have been a good solution. Thanks!

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
