Problem Installing on Windows 10

Problem Installing on Windows 10

2018-10-15 by Peter De Smidt

I'd like to use QTR to print at the Digital Print Lab at UW Manitowoc.
While QTR (and other things) are already loaded on the computer, I have
to log into Windows 10. I'm supposed to download and install the
software. At first when I did this, I'd get error messages that files
couldn't be read. I then tried right-clicking on the install file and
picked "run as an administrator". Progress! QTR seemed to install
without issues. However, when I load the program, I first get a "no
default printer" box, and then the gui opens. However, the "busy"
cursor runs continuously. I can select a printer, say the 3880 in the
printer selection box, but I can't access any of the other fields. I've
tried un-installing, re-installing, re-booting, and trying an earlier
version of the program, all without success. Any ideas of what to try?

I'm replying because no-one else has. I don't often use W10, I'm pretty much all on W7. I haven't seen this problem before in either OS. You've chosen a printer, have you chosen a printing model? Normally a default model for the printer is automatically selected once the printer is. Just an idea. Failing that, perhaps the PC is heavily locked down and you need to run the program as admin, not just install it. That's the only thing that comes to mind to me.

It looks like the problem was that a default printer was not selected.
There are a bunch of printers on the network, and so perhaps QTR hung up
trying to find all of the printers. Anyway, by specifying a default
printer on each local computer, QTR has been able to run successfully.
