Native macOS app for making, blending, and linearizing QTR curves

2018-10-25 by richard@...

I just released the companion app for my native macOS digital negative profiling software that works with positive prints.

The ink limiting and toning controls is similar the Excel-based K3 tools I released last year, but I added a better control for balancing the ink loads, dialing in the toner saturation, and the custom toner limits. But that is where the similarities end.

I also build a really fast and visual way of blending 2 quad curves similar to what is built into the QTR driver but with more control over the split, and works from the .quad files so you can use it with K3, custom profiles like Paul Roarks variable tone curves, or PiezoPro curves —I've been using it as a way to and save a particular blend for different printing clients and not have to keep multiple print preset in the QTR printer . (It also builds the split as a comment in the header info of the .quad file so you can remember it later...)

The linearization is similar to my other apps (but better), and does a linearization from 21, 51, 86, 128, 129, and 256 step targets (although the measurements are interpolated to 256 steps for the actual linearization, and I've found little need to measure more than 51 steps with this method). I added native support for all the different measurement device file formats, including automatic built in averaging for multiple samples per patch, and two options for measurement data smoothing. So you just need to open the original measurement data from the app and don't need to run them through DataTool or QTR-Linearize-Data (although you can still open those files in my app)

You can see screenshots here and get a free demo version to play with here. And, if you sign up to download the demo, you will be invited to two youtube live tutorials I'm holding on Sunday.
