I am looking for suggestions about which 24" printer might best suit my needs for QTR with refillable cartridges.
° Can use readily available refillable cartridges
° Is less likely to clog
° Isn't plagued by Epson trying to lock me out of my own printer (if such a thing exists)
One sort of related question, too, please... What is the transport system in the 4900 series printer? Is it like the larger printers or the 17" and smaller printers?
Thanks.

The 78xx series is good depending on your needs many around in various states, currently on ebay one with bad magenta channel for $50 if willing to pick it up in western NE. I use a 7880 with only the black matte channel for DTP photogravure, the rest of crts filled with distilled water.

Thanks Russel. Based solely on the numbers published by Epson for the 78XX and my 3880, I conclude that print quality and resolution should be the same. Has that been your experience? 7880 or 7900 is the best in my opinion

I have not used a 3880, my experience with the 7880 is using the Epson driver 1440 matte black , unidirectional for DTP photogravure, I am experimenting with the P800 and QTR for DTP with satisfactory results(using your recommendations), I do not plan to put any money to resuscitate my older 7880. When dead I will purchase a new 24 inch Sure Color Printer. For B&W prints I do not believe third party inks provide any advantage over Epson, and are no longer less expensive.

Never tried it I have a 7880 and like it. The 7900 seems to clog a lot but that is just what I have seen.

My 9900 Printer sure liked to clog so I bet the 7900 is the same! My Canon doesn't clog but I have changed a pair of print heads. At least head replacement is a user maintenance item.

Do you run your 7900 on a regular basis, daily, weekly monthly? Frequent nozzle checks? Frequent head cleanings? 5 trouble-free years is a great record so you certainly know what you are doing!!
