Brand new to this---some help with planning

I have used a number of the B+W "solutions" and have found them wanting. Part of this may well be ignorance/incompetence on my part. I am now contemplating jumping into the matter again with an Epson 2400 with the Photoblack ink for use with a semigloss paper (I use Epson Premium Semimatte for color on my 4000 with Media Street Ultrachrome and get great results). I want the punch and Dmax afforded by the Pk ink. I have used another 4000 with MIS and Sundance Septone with disappointing results on matte paper. My questions: What paper choices do I have. Will I have to make custom curves for most papers? I read somewhere that QuadRIP only supports Epson Enhanced Matte and Ilford Lustre with "canned" profiles. Is this true? How big a deal is profiling the paper/printer combination? Do you think the combination of 2400 and a semi-gloss paper is a good idea. Any other thoughts, please. Thanks, Walter
