R800 newbie questions

2006-02-12 by Peter Hohenstein

Hi all,

I just subscribed to this list after starting to try QTR this afternoon.
I have some questions that might be stupid ones, but I haven't been able
to find them discussed in the archives of the list. My apologies if they
have been...

I'm using an Epson R800 with premium glossy photo paper and the Epson
ultra chrome inks. When I use QTR I have the R800 set as the printer
name, QuadR800 as the model, media type as premium glossy photo paper.
When I print I get the impression that the driver is using the matte
black instead of the photo black and that the gloss optimizer is not
being used. Is this impression correct, and if so, is this linked to the
fact that all the curves I can choose from are matte curves? Can I
changes this?

And last question: Is it possible from QTR to print borderless?

Yes, it is because of matte black used. You have to create your own
profiles/curves atm, because there aren't yet glossy profiles.

I don't think so. The underlying print engine can do it in recent
version, but not perfectly down to the bottom of the paper. I have no
idea if Roy updates the the gimpprint/gutenprint base when a new version
comes out.
