Cone QTR?

Cone QTR?

2006-03-14 by lulalake_1999

Mr H.

Hi. I'm a long time user of QTR, verry happy with it, thanks tons.
Question:
I use a 2200 and I'm considering trying Cones' K7 inks.
Cone says that I need to get a new version of QTR.

I have the latest and asked them if they had just the profiles. They
said no, that I would have to purchase QTR with their profiles
embedded..

Well, I already did purchase QTR when the newest version came out so am
I going to have to buy yet another copy of the same version with Cone
profiles embedded or is there a different "Cone friendly" driver and if
so, will it work if I decide to use Ultra Chrome again?

Thanks

Jules

I have the latest QTR (2.4.1) and the Cone curves appear to be included
under the Quad2200-NK7 printing model. They are named slightly differently
than those appearing on the inkjetmall web site (e.g. the names include the
2880 printer setting) and there appear to be some additional names present.
However, if you use the curve creator to look for qidf files, you will see
that the only qidf file present is for a 1440 curve. Cone does not provide
its source file for the curve.

Perhaps the Cone website has more recent versions of these curves, but I
could not find them.

The Cone curves are in the current download. No need to buy QTR again.

Go to the Profiles folder and look for "2100-2200-NK7" folder.

Jules,

I wrote that you needed to download the package, not purchase. Roy can correct me if I
am wrong, but it is my understanding that your purchase of QTR entitles you to free
updates and downloads...

John,

Thanks kindly for your response. So I can order a set of inks,
download the QTR package, install that QTR over the one I have (or a
clean install) and then I'm then ready to do some inkjetting?

I got a bit confused as your advertising seems to say that "the
package" is a set of inks and QTR with the profiles imbedded for $124.

http://www.inkjetmall.com/store/bw2/index.html

Where as the set of inks alone is $118

http://www.inkjetmall.com/store/piezok7/piezo-k7-inks.html#2200

If you don't mind me asking, why not supply the QTR profiles
separately? Possibly idiot proofing the profile installation?

Cheers

Jules

Jules,

The inks and the software/profiles are completely separate -- the inks
from Cone and the software from me. The profiles were made by Cone
but they are downloaded with the software for ease of installation and
use.

One purchase of the QTR software entitles you to updates of the software
which incidentally also gives you updates of the profiles.

That is actually a kit which includes inks and paper samples. We do not charge anything
for QTR or our profiles which Roy Harrington is kind enough to include in his package.

If you would just like the inks here is the link for just inks:
http://www.inkjetmall.com/store/piezok7/piezo-k7-2200.html

The other package includes as I said, paper samples! (won't need this if you already have
supported papers.)

That would actually be much more difficult for most users to figure out how to get the
profiles and put them where they belong!!! :)

Roy,

Thanks for the reply. I just find that some of the language on Cone's
site a bit less than clear.

I am aware of the upgrading with QTR, although I don't know exactly
how to update other than just download the newest version, which I
have done. (I see Cone's profiles there and am ordering the K7's
today!). I believe somewhere you said that you don't keep records of
who buys or doesn't buy your software so what's to determine if I am
upgrading or just downloading?

Cheers

Jules

Thanks Jon,

AHA! I understand now. I didn't know that the kit contains papers
etc. Since I have paper etc. I ordered the inkset only.

Thanks much for your help. Now if Mr. Gates would respond as well as
you and Roy . . . . .

Cheers

Hi Jules,

Yes, upgrading is just downloading the newest version.
I actually do keep the names of those who pay but there isn't a
registration
in the software.

Thanks for the info Roy,
I was wondering how that worked.
