My Pure Whites Print Gray?

My Pure Whites Print Gray?

2006-04-20 by crawfslo

Hi everyone. This is my first post as I have just joined to see if
anyone can help me. Although I have been photographing for some time,
printing does not come easy to me and I feel rather helpless and
stupid most of the time. My problem is that my pure whites print gray.
I have a MacG5 running OS10.4.6. I am now using QuatoneRIP 2.3 after
using and earlier version which gave me no problems. My printer is an
Epson 1280. I think I am setting everything up per the tutorial,
although this I am not too sure about. I have tried adjusting the ink
limit and the gamma with no difference. In fact when I convert the
image from RGB to Grayscale the whites are a darker gray. Does anyone
else have this problem? Anyone have an idea of what I am doing wrong?
Thanks so much.

You are most likely preparing your file in a program such as Photoshop or similar file editor program. In Photoshop, consider using levels (or curves, more difficult and set the white point (the first part of the histogram slightly to the left. That may work; if not, nothing's been lost. You may try also to see if your profile is correct using matte paper. Good luck Joe
