Prints dark

Prints dark

2006-05-03 by Brent

Hello all I have searched the history files in hopes to find a
solution to my problem. I am running Photoshop CS2 as of the last
month and printing on a epson 2200. I have had great success with
Quadtone until my hard drive crashed. I got back up and running
purchased PS CS2 and started printing again. Now, all my quadtone
prints are an approximate 1.5 stops to dark. I am running Grayscale
20% or 2.2 dot pitch. My monitor is calibrated. My color prints on my
HP130 look great compared to my monitor so that is for sure calibrated
right.

Does anyone have any solutions. Here is my workflow. Save a
grayscale image as a TIFF, open quadtone drag the image into the print
area. For my proofs I print on the Epson Enhanced Matte paper. I
select Matte paper, my printing model is Quad2200, My curves are set
at UC-EEnhmatte warm 50 UC-EEnhmatte cool. No ink limit or Gamma
adjustments. Does anyone see a flaw in my basic printing?

Thanks
Brent

Brent,
I had the same problem, and judging from your work flow, you may need the same solution!

When working on a PC you print outside Photoshop. But before you save and convert your image to a TIF in Photoshop, you need to assign a profile. You do this by going to the EDIT toolbar on the top of screen and then finding the tab "assigning a profile."

If you loaded the profiles from the QTR web site, you should be able to click on one and assign it to your image. Then save. Now you are ready to print.

I hope this proves helpful.
