Help! Custom paper size problem

Help! Custom paper size problem

2005-05-14 by krn_ptr

After setting a custom paper size in QTR, the print preview dialog shows the
image correctly oriented to print the way I want (landscape on an 8.5 x 17
sheet). When I print, it prints across the width of the paper, cutting off most of
the image (it's a panorama shot).

If I switch the selected printer from QTR to Epson MK driver, it prints correctly
(except that it's tinted instead of B&W). What am I doing wrong? Of course, I
have a deadline for tomorrow for two prints for an exhibition. Please help.

Thanks,

peter

I'm redifining the problem and adding system information. Perhaps Roy will
know the answer to this one.

G5/Quad 2200, UC inks. (Does QTR allow custom paper sizes on a
Macintosh?)

By trying to print a 9"x28" panorama on a 13"x36" sheet, here's what I've
found out:

Setting 13"x36 custom size, causes the printer to print parallel bars of tone
across the entire width of the paper until the printing job is stopped.

Selecting 13"x44" from the defaults offered, and changing the left margin to
4", the printer will print the panorama fine. Can someone tell me why it won't
print a custom size 36" in length?

Although the Epson driver allowed me to print a 14" long image on a custom
size setting of 8.5"x17", when the custom size was set to 13"x36", it only
printed a narrow section (landscape orientation) of the panorama across the
narrow dimension of the paper, even though the print preview showed it
correctly oriented. Can someone help with this one, too?

Thanks,

peter

My client has the same setup as you - Panther/2200 - and the same problem. I spent a while
trying to figure it out, re-installing QTR and profiles and trying to trick the Page Setup with
custom sizes and orientations. Nothing helped.

Thanks, John. I think... : >)

At least you told me in time to avoid doing a reinstal. Do you know if Macs
can print longer images than 44" ?

Hi Peter,

Which version of QTR are you using? Your symptoms sound
like something from a previous version with unusual sizes.
Are you actually using exactly 13 inches? Metric sizes were causing
problems in some cases. Version 2.2b should fix all this, if this is in
fact what you are running into.

You can fairly easily upgrade or downgrade versions, just install the software
from QuadToneRIPx.x.pkg and reinstall the Printer and profiles.

I'm out of town at the moment so I can't check on the max length but
I think the 2200 can go longer.

Roy

Re: Help! Custom paper size problem

Hi Roy,

Thanks for checking in. I'm using 2-1.1d, and custom sizes are requested in
metric. Does the upgrade ask for sizes in inches? That would sure make it
easier for me.

I didn't want to switch versions because I'm getting neutral prints with fairly
good density with version 2-1.1d. I've managed to get the black and white
print done by using 13x44 default size and shifting the image to fit the 13x36
paper.

I'll upgrade once I've figured out how to get a 36" colour print using the Epson
driver. It doesn't even give me the 13x44 option, and it too doesn't print
properly with a custom size over 19".

I'm wondering if anyone out there knows how to do this?

Thanks,

peter

Re: Help! Custom paper size problem (Solved)

2005-05-14 by krn_ptr

Turns out t he problem was that my conversion of inches to milimetres was
slightly off. Epson's package for 13" paper is 329mm and I had mine set at
32.5cm.

Please be sure you are running the current version--2.2e. There was a fix for
this problem in that version.

Thanks, Stephen, I already found the solution. I had entered the size for the
13" paper incorrectly by 2.1mm. When I reset it to 328mm, it printed fine.
Unfortunately, I'm still having other, unrelated problems.
