linearization creates very grainy output..

2006-09-08 by rc14770

Have NK7 inks on a Epson 7600.
I am attempting to linearize the Hahn Photo Rag profile.
I saved the QTR profile as a different name, used densitometer to get
accurate readings on 21step chart.
When I save those linearization readings, the subsequent printing of
21step chart (using "new" profile) has very noticable dots vs nice
smooth gradients.

I feel I am missing something in this process.

help, please

thank you

Hi Becky,

I'm by no means a QTR expert, but I noticed that every time you open
the "curve creation" tab you get the template of a black-only setting,
not the curce you're actually working on. Perhaps you linearized that
one by coincidence? Would be consistent with the grainy image you
mention.

thanks for your input...you are correct, I was using a "black only"
curve....however, under Profiles, I only find 2 qidf files for
HahnPhotoRag NK7...1 for 2100 & 1 for 2200. Would I use one of those
for my 7600?
obviously I'm a bit confused.

thanks again

Hi Becky,

As I said, I'm not an QTR expert whatsoever. I'm learning my way in
myself. I see what you mean. Indeed there are no .qidf files for the
7600. There are however .quad files that you can use straight away
by selecting them on the "curves" field in the main GTRgui panel (if
you have selected Quad7600-NK-7 in "printing model" filed (assuming
a windows environement here).

My (uneducated) guess would be that the .qidf for the 2100 or 2200
will not work straight away, but would be a good starting point for
editing you own profiles for the 7600.

Hi Everyone,

I contacted this forum a few months ago to see if I could obtain some QTR
curves for the Epson 2000P printer and I was unsuccessful.

I am contacting the forum again to see if anyone can help.

I know this printer is rather old now but it still produces good prints. I
wish to use the OEM inks and any good mat or pearl or oyster paper.

Best Wishes,

John
