Introduction, and "am I doing this right?"
2005-06-03 by roefromfish
Greetings list!
I'm now the proud owner of an epson-1290, a set of MIS-UT2 inks, and
an old xrite dtp densitometer (amazing what you can find on e-bay
:-)). I would have preferred an epson-2200, but that was about
AU$400 more...
I've got QTR (from the QTR2-beta9.tar.gz) running on my *nix box,
and I'm trying to set up curves for Illford Gallerie smooth perl
paper.
Now for the (probably dumb) "am I doing this right?" questions.
1. I'm getting a higher D-max on both the UT2-C and UT2-M inks than
I'm getting with the UT2-PK (2.17, 2.12 vs 2.00), doesn't seem
right, but from what I've read PK is the correct black to use for
this paper.
- Is this normal?
- Should I just use GRAY_INK_1=M GRAY_INK_2=LM and forget about the
PK black ink?
2. Ink limits seem to be 100% for all inks except the PK (45%),
again this doesn't seem right (unless IGSP is a very thirsty paper).
I've included my 100% inklimit calibration mode at the end of this
message if anyone cares to look.
- Is this normal?
- Can I/Should I tell QTR to put more ink on the paper? If so, how?
3. The values in the table of "Ideal densities for various dMax"
(in Tom's QTR User Guide) that are to be used when checking the
linearisation, aren't linear. I have no doubt Tom has put the right
values in, but...
- Why isn't it linear?
- What is the equation of the curve?
Thanks for any and all help, but I'm sure I'll be back later
with more questions.
Cheers,
Nigel
