Problem printing color calibration test - Epson 2200 / QTRgui 2.5.0.5

Problem printing color calibration test - Epson 2200 / QTRgui 2.5.0.5

2007-02-15 by dmdctusa

Not sure if this is for Roy or Steven

Today I decieded start my first profile. Following Tom Moore's
guidance, I started to print the ink chracterization calibration
test sheet.

After I select the calibration option, the tiff image appears in the
image box. When I click print the job seems to spool to the printer
and the printer starts but the sheet never prints. Afte a few seconds
the job disappears from the print status screen and the paper ejects.

The printer is printng normally as a 2200 from Lightroom PWPro and
other apps.

Any ideas as to the problem. Should I print directly to the printer
and avoid the spooler.

I use the QTRgui clean before I installed ver. 2.5.05.

Any and all help is appreciated.

As a general rule of thumb, if the output gets spooled, it is a problem for Roy.

FYI, I have just tried printing a calibration target on my 2200. It also spools
to the printer, the printer cogitates a bit, then spits out a blank page. No
errors or anything else unusual in the logs, so, something has gone wrong.

I just tried calibration mode on both the 2200 and R2400 and on both
Mac and PC
and it all worked fine here .
My suspicion is that maybe you left the
Calibration Ink Limit at 0 so no ink was printed.

Roy: I got caught, and seeing that even Stephen got caught, would you
consider setting the first time default calibration ink limit to 100%
rather than the current 0%?

The default is now 50% in the GUI. If you had it at 0 it will change to 50.
Otherwise it remembers the last setting.

50% is OK, but isn't 100% best considering the first calibration print
should be at 100%. It's great that the last setting is remembered
(that's why I forgot to check--lulled into that false sense of
familarity), but for newbies and even for experienced users who
reinstall (sound familiar) isn't it just good gui design to avoid the
problem all together?

Stephen and Jeff,

I thought 50 would be a likely desired value but Jeff's got a persuading
argument for 100. Should we reconsider?

Stephen and Roy: If you do reconsider, don't forget to update the
QTRgui version included in the master QTR setup file. Otherwise the
change likely won't help anyone.

I suppose a Windows user could change it to 100 manually by editing the .ini
file?

No problem here. The default will only be in effect for "first time users" of
Calibration, so if they should start at 100 it makes sense to set the default to
100.
