Photo Workshop

Photo Workshop

2007-03-11 by Paul Roark

Hi,

Please excuse this plug for the Golden Trout photo workshop. But it at
least is a non-profit (very) organization [501(c)(3)] that is run by
volunteers. The cost is only $395 for a full week.

(This is essentially the same post that I put in the B&W Print forum, where
I usually post.)

Roy Harrington is the featured workshop leader this summer. Although this
is a rustic mountain facility, we'll have a printer, laptop, etc. to demo
QTR and whatever else people are interested in. On the other hand, our
solar/storage-battery power system can't run a room full of computers and
printers all day. Given the beautiful and unique location of the workshop,
staying inside and printing is not what most would want to do anyway.

This is a High Sierra (California Sierra Nevada) wilderness camp. So,
enjoyment of that type of experience is important. Being able to deal with
high elevation is also important. The camp is at 10,000 feet, and most of
the best shooting locations are at approximately 11,000 feet. The name of
the historic old facility derives from the Golden Trout Wilderness area, in
which it is located. We are at the southern boarder of the John Muir
Wilderness and one of the very few structures that was allowed to exist in
these wilderness areas. Most of the days are spent going to great shooting
locations in the John Muir Wilderness.

The B&W photo session will be July 1 - 7. There will be an experienced
naturalist there also. Wives and family are most welcomed and will be able
to hang out with the naturalist or others if (when) they get tired of all
the photo talk. There will be some at camp who are there for the natural
history aspect or just to enjoy the Sierras.

For some of my photos of the area and more information, see
http://www.paulroark.com/GTthumbnails.html and follow the links from that.

Registration is via a form in the brochure, which I can mail or can be
downloaded from http://www.paulroark.com/GTC_BROCHURE07.pdf

Since I'll be near LAX before the workshop begins, I'll be able to provide
transportation from the LAX area to camp July 1 (and back) for 5
out-of-state people.

For those who enjoy the Sierra environment and photography, this is a fun
experience and great bargain.

Hope to see some of you there this summer.

Paul
